How therapy is provided
All therapy at Sophia Alexis is provided through telehealth -- secure video sessions you attend from a private space of your choosing. Telehealth is how we deliver therapy; it is not a separate service, and the care, standards, and confidentiality are the same as in-person clinical work.
Therapy clients must be physically located in the state of Georgia at the time of each session. This is a licensure requirement, not a preference. If you are traveling or relocating outside Georgia, tell us before your session so we can talk through your options honestly.
What to expect in a virtual session
- Sessions are held over a secure video platform. You'll receive a link before your appointment.
- Plan for a private, quiet space where you can speak freely, a device with a camera and microphone, and a reliable internet connection.
- Headphones improve both privacy and audio quality.
- If technology fails mid-session, we'll have agreed in advance how to reconnect -- usually by phone.
Privacy and technology
Video sessions are conducted through a platform designed for healthcare privacy. Your side of the connection matters too: choose a space where you won't be overheard, and be thoughtful about shared or monitored devices and networks (for example, a work laptop).
Our full privacy practices are described in our Notice of Privacy Practices.
Limitations to know about
Telehealth is effective for many people and many concerns, but it is not appropriate for every situation. Some circumstances -- including certain acute or high-risk conditions -- are better served by in-person or more intensive care. If that is true for you, we will say so plainly and help you find appropriate support.
Telehealth is not an emergency service. If you are in crisis, experiencing thoughts of harming yourself or others, or facing a medical emergency, do not wait for a scheduled session. Call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), call 911, or go to your nearest emergency room. More options are on our Crisis Resources page.
What about coaching?
Coaching sessions are also held virtually, but coaching is not a licensed clinical service, so the Georgia location requirement described above applies to therapy, not coaching. Coaching does not include diagnosis, clinical treatment, or emergency mental-health care. If you're unsure which is right for you, see Therapy or Coaching?
